Total time: 25 minutes
Servings: 4 burgers

Ingredients

For the Beef Patties

  • 500 g ground/minced beef, preferably 15–20% fat
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp freshly ground black pepper
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 4 slices cheddar cheese

For the Homemade Ranch-Style Sauce

  • 5 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp sour cream
  • 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • ½ tsp dried dill
  • ½ tsp dried parsley
  • ¼ tsp garlic powder
  • ¼ tsp onion powder
  • Pinch of salt
  • Freshly ground black pepper

For Serving

  • 4 brioche burger buns
  • 4 lettuce leaves
  • 1 large tomato, sliced
  • ½ red onion, thinly sliced
  • Dill pickle slices, optional

Instructions

1. Make the Ranch Sauce

Add the mayonnaise, sour cream, lemon juice, dill, parsley, garlic powder and onion powder to a small bowl.

Season with a little salt and black pepper, then mix until smooth and creamy.

Cover and refrigerate while you prepare the burgers.

2. Shape the Beef Patties

Divide the ground beef into four equal portions.

Gently shape each portion into a round patty slightly wider than the burger buns. Don’t press the beef together too firmly.

Season both sides of each patty with salt, black pepper, garlic powder and onion powder just before cooking.

3. Cook the Beef Burgers

Heat a cast-iron skillet, heavy frying pan or griddle over medium-high heat.

Add a small amount of vegetable oil.

Place the patties onto the hot cooking surface and cook until a nicely browned crust develops.

Flip the burgers and continue cooking until the minced beef reaches a safe internal temperature according to your local food-safety guidance.

Avoid repeatedly pressing down on the patties while they cook.

4. Melt the Cheese

Place a slice of cheddar cheese over each patty during the final minute or two of cooking.

Allow the cheese to melt naturally over the hot beef.

5. Toast the Buns

Cut the brioche buns in half.

Place them cut-side down in a hot pan or on a griddle and toast briefly until lightly golden.

Assemble the Ranch Beef Burger

Spread a generous spoonful of ranch sauce over the bottom half of each toasted bun.

Add crisp lettuce followed by the hot beef patty and melted cheddar.

Top with fresh tomato, thinly sliced red onion and dill pickles if desired.

Drizzle a little extra ranch sauce over the toppings before adding the toasted top bun.

Serve immediately.

Tips for the Best Ranch Beef Burger

Make the ranch sauce first. Giving the sauce a little time in the refrigerator allows the herb and garlic flavours to develop.

Use beef with some fat. Ground beef containing around 15–20% fat helps produce a juicy burger.

Don’t overwork the beef. Shape the patties gently so they remain tender.

Keep the ranch sauce cool. Add it when assembling the burger rather than cooking it with the beef.

Toast the buns. A toasted surface adds flavour and helps prevent the creamy sauce from soaking into the bread too quickly.

Optional Toppings

You can customise your Ranch Beef Burger with:

  • Crispy bacon
  • Jalapeños
  • Avocado
  • Crispy onions
  • Caramelised onions
  • Extra cheddar
  • Pickles
  • Sliced cucumber

What to Serve With Ranch Beef Burgers

Serve these burgers with crispy French fries, potato wedges, onion rings, coleslaw, a green salad or roasted potatoes.

Extra ranch sauce also makes a delicious dip for fries.
